Muslim Interscholastic Tournament

The Muslim Interscholastic Tournament (MIST) is a fun, educational, and interactive program featuring competitions, workshops, and community-building activities. MIST brings together high school students from across the nation to strengthen leadership, communication, and creative skills while fostering a strong sense of identity.

Our mission is to unite high school students in an environment that encourages leadership, collaboration, and creativity, while deepening their understanding of Islam and the Muslim community. Founded in 2002 by a high school student in Houston, Texas, MIST has since grown to include 19 regions around the world, hosting annual regional and national tournaments.

Develop Confidence and Professionalism

One of MIST’s core goals is to help participants build confidence and professionalism through hands-on experiences in presentation, public speaking, and problem-solving. Competitors showcase their projects before panels of judges and audiences of fellow students, gaining valuable feedback and real-world experience. Every participant has the opportunity to uncover new talents and realize their hidden potential.

MIST brings together students from diverse backgrounds to connect with peers who share similar — or entirely different — interests and talents. These connections often grow into lasting friendships and professional networks. We welcome participants of all faiths and backgrounds. With competitions and workshops designed to promote critical thinking and cultural understanding, MIST offers an inclusive space for anyone eager to broaden their perspective and learn more about Islam and the Muslim community.

Learn Strategies to Challenge Stereotypes

MIST also empowers students to thoughtfully engage with and challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about Islam and Muslims. Through open discussions, collaborative workshops, and shared experiences, participants learn how to address bias with knowledge, empathy, and confidence. In a world where understanding across cultures is more important than ever, MIST equips future leaders with the tools to promote respect, understanding, and peace.
